Capacity planning is the process of establishing the overall level of productive resources for a business. It involves long-term strategic activities, such as the acquisition of new facilities, technologies, or businesses, that take a year or more to complete. This module will focus on capacity expansion and how it can lead demand, lag behind demand, or meet average demand.

In this module, we will cover:
  • Different strategies for capacity expansion.
  • Advantages and disadvantages of different types of layouts in both manufacturing and service settings.
  • Concepts of economies of scale, best operating level and cycle time.
  • Enterprise project management and discuss the key elements in project control.
